Rubber Stamped Coasters

Handmade wooden coasters with rubber stamped designs, here is the 'how to.'

A pack of wooden circles are inexpensive and can be found at Wal-Mart, or craft supply stores.  This package used in this project came with quantity 6 pieces for about $1.

Prepare the surface of the wood by brushing a coat of water based sealer.  Optionally, you can use actual wood sealer in clear or a light color from a home improvement store (requires light sanding in between coats).  I only applied one coat of water-based sealer and allowed to fully dry (2 to 5 minutes).

Stamp with resist pad (VersaMark 'Frost' was used in this project, but any resist pad will work.

Add embossing powder of your choice of color.  Darker colors stand out more.  You can use gold, silver, glitter, etc.
The best way to easily remove any excess embossed particles is with an X-acto knife.
Rubber stamps featured:
Pocket Watch
Quoth the Raven
Ships Wheel
Bubble Bee
Gears Background

For stamping onto wood, it is important to use rubber stamps since they offer the best ink transfer (in this case the resist material).  Also, using designs that have good lines and not too much grungy effects appear better with embossing onto the wood surface.  Have fun creating your coasters.  And if you are bold, creating Christmas tree ornaments with wood by attaching a ribbon to the top or hole would be cool, too!

New Releases Now Available

We're excited to showcase a sampling of our July 2016 new releases.  The complete list can be seen at:
Shown above, "December Tree" - a collage showing the favourites of the Christmas season, beautifully scented trees with a musical background.
Merry Christmas Woodcut is a specially designed text stamp.  Try embossing it in white onto black or dark green paper - such a fabulous effect!
A classic bingo card - one of my personal favourites this release.  I know because I couldn't wait to stamp with this one.  So many grungy projects to come.
A holiday addition to the Color Me series of stamps - "Color Me Poinsettia".  This flower can be colored in using reds, pinks, or a violet palette.
How cute is this, 2" x 2" Gingerbread Man & Cocoa? This stamp features a photographic conversion into line art.
Adding snow with a white gel pen onto the large trees was so easy.  Stamped in blue ink onto a blue paper, the "Mountain Cabin" rubber stamp makes a great center piece to a card or tag.
We couldn't leave out the snowmen, and this release we have several.  "Snowman Garland" is a fun scene.  The snowman is getting help making a cranberry garland from a bunny and bear.  It's a good thing he's wearing a thimble to protect his head in case teddy gets careless with the sewing needle.
I love the tree line in this stamp called, "Winter Night".  The snowman in this scene is getting a visitor from a beautiful woodland friend.  The moon and sky will be fun to color in a blue theme.

Jade Wedding Card

Jade green papers with gold embossed elegant designs make for a perfect wedding card!

Inspired by beautiful wallpaper, I embossed our Damask background rubber stamp onto a damask patterned paper.
The Antique Dressing Table Rubber Stamp is also embossed in gold onto damask patterned, jade paper.
Formal Gown and Floral Corner is a 2 stamp set.  Embossing the gown and matching corner stamp in white onto the same damask jade patterned paper and I placed the twice stamped corner on one corner and the other.

One of my favorite tools in my craft room are the Cutter Bee Scissors.  I can cut intricate patterns around anything.  I use them in just about every project!

I loved creating this card because of the layering of jade green paper.  The base paper already had some gold embossing in it.
